Indonesia was supposed to be the host, but the tournament was shifted to Argentina following a wave of protests and strong rejection from several parties in the country for the presence of Israel as one of the participating teams.

The 2023 U-20 World Cup in Argentina starts on Saturday, May 20 local time or Sunday (21/5) in the morning WIB and lasts until June 11. This competition will be contested by 24 contestants who are divided into six groups in the preliminary round.
Where Will the 2023 U-20 World Cup Be Played?
Four cities will stage this biennial tournament in Argentina, namely La Plata, Mendoza, San Juan and Santiago del Estero.
The opening match was played in Santiago del Estero, and La Plata became the venue for two semi-final matches, a third-place play-off plus the final.

Argentina took part as the host replacing Indonesia after not qualifying from the qualifying route.
