Seized or Stuck Feed Screws |
|
|
Seized, stuck, or broken feed screws create a difficult situation and unwanted downtime. Uncontrollable situations such as a power outage can shut down your whole operation and re-heating the barrel may or may not release the screw. Another concern is a foreign object getting through the feed chamber or using the wrong blends, all which can cause the feed screw to seize inside the barrel. In addition, we have found some screws that twist and break inside the barrel.
Maverick Systems has the capabilities to come in and remove the seized screw, depending on the situation. It may be possible to remove the screw on site, clean and inspect the barrel, and have you back producing product in one to two days. If the problem is more than we can handle on site, we can transport the barrel to our facility and press the screw out.
Our other capabilities are measuring the I.D. of the barrel to identify any damage that may have occurred from the seized screw. Sometimes the wear may be more than allowable to produce product. If an object such as metal caused the seize, the inside of the barrel may be gouged beyond use. Measuring the barrel will let you know the condition of the inside of the barrel.
Maverick Systems also performs Laser alignment of extruder barrels, which can be done before the measurement check. Aligning the barrel can benefit your extruder in several ways. See barrel alignment.
No matter what your needs are, Maverick Systems can get you back into production. |
